Multi-ethnic societies are made up of groups of people who see themselves as different from other groups. Culture , Religion , Physical features or Language. They also have a unique set of beliefs , values and customs .

In Rwanda, a small African country, ethni tension between the majority Hutus and minority Tutsis resulted from the social inequality created by the colonial rulers.

Indian Tamil : 5.1 %

Reason why they fight !
1. Citizenship
- 1948 British left Sri Lanka
- Sinhalese ruled S.L
- 100,000 tamils became stateless
2. ' Sinhala Only ' ( Language ) Policy
- 3 years all tamils must learn sinhala or they'll be fired
- many Tamils become jobless
3. University Admission
- during british rule, equal S&T enetred medical & engineering courses
- now tamils must score more marks than sinhalese to enter University
- more Sinhalese enrolled in University
4. Pop Resettlement
- tamils displaced ( kicked out ) from tamils areas
- Sinhalese peasants ( farmer ) , monks . SL army occupy their areas

Consequences / Results
1. Political
a. Armed [ tamils ; arms = weapons ]
- At first , demand nicely [ peacefully ]
- not met by sinhalese
- Formed LTTE [ tamil tiger ] : used violence
